Men's Volleyball to Compete in Loras College Invitational

ADRIAN, Mich. - This weekend, the Adrian men's volleyball team will participate in the last of its season-opening tournaments, traveling to Dubuque, Iowa for the Loras College Invitational.

The Bulldogs (3-6) will open their stay on Saturday against Marian University and the homestanding Duhawks. Then, on Sunday, the black and gold will challenge Edgewood College and Augustana College.

Marian University Sabres - Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference

The Sabres (8-0) and the Bulldogs became familiar with one another back on January 23 at the Adrian College Quad. The visitors, as past of their perfect weekend, swept the home side in three sets. On the stat sheet, Marian out-hit Adrian by 25.7 percent.

The team is off to its best start in program history, led by the NACC's leading killer in Derek Wills. The sophomore has 106 total kills so far this season for an average of 4.08 per set. His teammate Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes ranks second in the conference with a 0.530 attack-percentage. He also sports the third-highest average in blocks at 1.04.

Aaron Velasco and Zach Zelenik lead the Sabres defensively with 62 and 61 digs, respectively.

All told, Marian sits second in the NACC with a 0.327 hitting-percentage, which is complimented by a league-best 11.58 digs per set.

(RV) Loras College Duhawks - College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin

Another unscarred program in this weekend's tournament, the hosts (2-0) are rolling off of an impressive three-set victory over previously-fifth ranked Benedictine University on January 25.

Through two matches, Dorian Fiorenza leads the Duhawks with 25 kills behind a 0.246 attack-percentage. The junior has also produced a team-high nine service aces.

Joe Horn has been Loras' primary assistor, having dished out 58 total dimes so far this season.

Defensively, Horn also paces the 'Hawks with 20 digs, but is closely followed by Kevin Kessel's 18 digs.

Overall, Loras has hammered 12.5 kills per set while only committing just over five attack errors per set.

Edgewood College Eagles - Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference

The Eagles (0-2) may not have a tally in their win column, but the team has performed admirably. Of their eight total sets played, only once has a team failed to reach 20 points.

Christopher Kahler leads Edgewood in scoring, totaling 25 kills and 10 service aces. He is flanked by Ben Miller (20 kills) and Gavin Patterson (18 kills and seven aces).

Sophomore Max Nowak is averaging 8.13 assists per set.

As a team, the Eagles hold a 0.209 hitting-percentage with 85 kills on 215 attack attempts.

Augustana College Vikings - College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin

After dropping their first two matches of the season, the Vikings (1-2) went on the road to St. Ambrose (Iowa) and defeated the Fighting Bees 3-1 for their first win of 2022.

Aiden Bond and Aidan Bolan are both posting plus-three kill averages, and are responsible for 62 of the Vikings 157 total points through three contests.

Matthew Degnan is nearing 100 assists on the season, currently sitting just five dimes off of triple-digits.

On the backline, Max Sellers paces Augustana with 38 total digs and a 3.17 average.

The Vikings have 131 kills through the early stages of their season, resulting in a 0.127 attack-percentage.

Adrian College Bulldogs - Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League

The locals (3-6) are coming off of a split effort at Illinois Wesleyan last weekend, including a five-set thriller over Concordia-Chicago.

Chase Heuer actively leads the MCVL with 100 total kills, and is fifth in the conference with a 3.13 average. Fellow attacker Andrew Gawrisch boasts the league's fifth-highest hitting-percentage at 28.0 percent.

Senior Brandon Ravelo is making quite a name for himself at Adrian, currently ranking inside the top five in the MCVL in total digs (3rd; 56), service aces per set (4th; 0.50) and assists per set (3rd; 9.44). Recently recording his 1,000th-career assist, Ravelo is up to 302 dimes on the season. Jacob Rembulat is the next closet Bulldog in that regard, with 12.
