DUBUQUE, Iowa – After a tough first day at the Loras College Invitational, the Adrian College men's volleyball team looked to bounce back on day two. The Bulldogs began the day facing Edgewood College followed by a match with Augustana College. Adrian battled in both matches forcing five sets, but couldn't come away with the wins.
The Bulldogs battled with Edgewood to start the day forcing five sets. After Adrian went down 2-0, they battled back to win the third set 27-25 and the fourth set 25-20. After leading early in the fifth, the Bulldogs struggled to hold on to the lead and lost the match 3-2 after a 15-11 fifth set.
Adrian recorded an attack percentage of .180 on the day led by a pair of .222 in the fourth and fifth set. The Bulldogs totaled 52 kills in the match with ten aces and nine blocks.
Andrew Gawrisch picked up 20 of the kills while 13 came from
Chase Heuer and seven from Brendan Gula.
Brandon Ravelo picked up five aces to go with 43 assists in the first match.
The Bulldogs went into another five-set match against Augustana to end the two-day tournament. Adrian won the first set 25-23 but gave Augustana the lead dropping sets two and three. The Bulldogs won the fourth set 25-22 to force the fifth. Adrian continued to battle but fell short at 15-12 to lose the match.
Adrian finished with an attack percentage of .237 against Augustana's .343. The Bulldogs recorded 57 kills with eight aces, and five blocks. Heuer led the team in kills with 25 followed by 14 from Gawrisch, and nine from Brendan Gula. After 43 in the first match, Ravelo added 49 more assists in the second match.
Adrian falls to 3-9 on the season and has wrapped up its preseason tournaments. The next time the Bulldogs take the court will be on Friday, February 11 on the road at Wittenberg University to open the MCVL conference season.
