Women's Basketball Begins Penultimate Week of Regular Season Tonight

ADRIAN, Mich. - This week, the Adrian women's basketball team will play its 15th, and final regular-season road game of the 2021-22 campaign. For this affair, the Bulldogs (7-13, 4-8 MIAA) will venture north to Alma for their second meeting with the Scots in 10 days.

Back on January 31 in Adrian, the visitors overcame an early 13-point deficit to defeat the hosts 67-57. Madison Robbins and Oretha Humphries each tallied 14 points for the victors, while Taylor Sas recorded a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double.

The latter of the three remains in second-place in the MIAA in scoring, averaging 15.6 points an outing. She has, however, been absent from each of Alma's last three contests, and the Scots are 0-3 during that timeframe.

Olivia Warren and Humphries have stepped up on the scoresheets for Alma in Sas' absence, scoring 11.3 and 10.3 points per game, respectively, over the last three games.

As a team, the Scots have been outscored by an average of 29.3 points, and have turned the ball over twice as many times as their opponents since last week's bout against the 'Dogs.

After Wednesday's match-up, Adrian returns home on Saturday to host Kalamazoo.

It has been one month since the Hornets and the Bulldogs last met on January 8, during which the black and gold pulled away from their opposition for a 68-49 victory.

Laila Vincent and Christiana Hunt both contributed a team-high 13 points for Kalamazoo, and despite Vincent being ranked fourth in the conference in scoring (12.3), the Hornets are still searching for their first win since December 18, 2021 at Dominican (Ill.).

Vincent, a freshman, also sits in second in the league with an 8.4 rebounding average, followed closely behind by her teammate Kaelyn Arlington (8.3) and Adrian's Chelsea Palmer (8.2).

The Bulldog senior was all over the Hornets in their last meeting, posting an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, while also adding two blocks and a steal.

On the season, Palmer ranks third in the MIAA, scoring 14.4 points a game.

Makayla Clement (8.1 points per game), leads the Adrian line-up with 28 steals and 34 assists, and is second on the team with 11 blocks and 86 total rebounds.

Jordan Phillips continues to be one of the league's hottest shooters from behind the three-point line, currently sporting an MIAA second-best 0.421 three-point field goal percentage.

Most recently, the sophomore set a new career-high with 17 points against Olivet on February 3, including a 5-for-7 showing from downtown. Over the Bulldogs' last three games, Phillips is averaging 10.3 points per game.

Both of this week's games will feature live stats and live video.
