Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First Loss of the Season in Nail Biter to Westminster

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team picked up its first loss of the season on Thursday night as the Bulldogs host Westminster College (Pa.). It was a battled to the end, but Adrian came away with the loss by a score of 10-9

It was a quiet first quarter when it came to scoring as the first goal came 11 minutes into the game. Michael Jonas netted the goal for Adrian on an assist from Chris French. With under a minute to go in the quarter, Westminster scored to tie the game 1-1.

With 5:25 left in the first half, Westminster scored to make it a 2-1 game. The Titans went up 3-1 on a man-up goal to extend the lead. French found the back of the net 30 seconds later to make it a one-goal game heading into halftime.

After the break, Jake Coakley tied the game up on an assist from French to give French his third point of the game. Westminster answered with a goal, but Riley Edwards was able to tie it 4-4 with 8:03 to go in the third. Westminster broke the tie and went on to score three straight goals to lead 7-4. With just over a minute to play in the third, Jonas broke the silence for Adrian and made it a 7-5 game.

Westminster went up 8-5 to start the fourth, but Jonas answered to make it 8-6 with ten minutes to go. Coakley picked up another goal to answer one from the Titans to make it 9-7 with 5:48 to play. Westminster scored quickly off the face off, but Adrian didn't back down. Jonas scored his fourth of the game to put Adrian within two which was followed three minutes later by a goal from Coakley to make it a one-goal game with 1:15 to play.

Unfortunately, a couple of late turnovers for the Bulldogs took time off the clock and the team was unable to tie the game as they fell 10-9.

French recorded his 150th career point during his five-point night for Adrian.

Sam Spangler picked up his first loss in goal on Thursday night allowing ten goals while making seven saves.

Adrian will have a quick turnaround as they host Chatham University on Saturday, March 12 at 2:00 PM.
