TIFFIN, Ohio – The No. 19 Adrian College baseball team was back in action on Sunday on the road at Heidelberg University. After Saturday's game was canceled, the Bulldogs and the Student Princes turned Sunday into a doubleheader. Adrian came away with the sweep after a 4-1 win in game one and a 5-4 win in game two.
In game one, Heidelberg struck first on a RBI single to lead 1-0 after three innings of play. Adrian kept them scoreless the rest of the way.
Easton Rogers put Adrian on the board in the sixth on a sacrifice fly after a lead-off triple from
Don Goodes.
In the seventh inning, Adrian got into a jam after they put runners on first and second with nobody out. After pitching change,
Jacob Hanoian came in relief to get a quick strikeout. The Heidelberg loaded the based on an intentional walk, but Hanoian got out of the bases loaded jam.
AJ Miranda homered in the top of the eighth to drive in a pair of runs to take the lead 3-1. Adrian added insurance in the ninth on a double from Goodes to drive in
Ryan Davis and lock up the 4-1 win.
Maxwell Denny got the start in game one going six innings allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Jacob Hanoian came in to pitch the last three innings to get the win. Miller finished game one 3-for-4 with a run scored and a walk while Miranda went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.
In game two, Adrian crossed the plate first on a sacrifice fly by Miranda in the first to score Goodes and lead 1-0. Miranda added more in the third inning on a RBI double to drive in
Thomas Miller. Heidelberg responded in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs to time the game 2-2. It wasn't until the seventh when the Student Princes broke the tie to lead 3-2.
Adrian loaded the bases in the top of the eighth and drew back-to-back walks to score a pair of runs and take the lead 4-3. Heidelberg tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, but Miranda answered with his second homer of the day in the ninth to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 win.
Michael Swanson got the start for Adrian going a strong seven innings.
Tripp Russo came on to record the win followed by a save from
Brandon Schulze.
Adrian's next contest is at home as they host Case Western Reserve on Tuesday, March 22 at 4:00 PM.
