Women's Lacrosse to Wrap Up Non-Conference Slate this Week

3/30/2022 2:00:00 PM

ADRIAN, Mich. - Fresh off of its third consecutive victory, the Adrian women's lacrosse is due back on the field this week to bring its non-conference schedule to a close. The Bulldogs (4-3) will open their latest stretch in Ohio on Thursday against the College of Wooster, before returning to the friendly confines of Docking Stadium on Sunday to host Siena Heights University.

The Fighting Scots of the College of Wooster began their 2022 campaign with seven-straight wins, including four in which they scored 20 or more goals. The streak was ended this past Saturday, however, at DePauw University.

Through eight games this year, teammates Kenzie Morris and Jill Murray have been the Scots biggest offensive contributors, totaling 31 and 30 points, respectively. Senior Syd Schuster, who ranks second on the team behind Murray with 44 shots, has amassed 25 points on 19 goals and six assists.

In goal, C.C. Dent is credited with each of Wooster's seven victories, while Maeve Burke leads the team with a 0.486 save percentage and 7.89 goals-against average.

Thursday will be only the fourth meeting between the 'Dogs and Scots since 2008. During that span, Wooster is 3-0 and has outscored Adrian by an average of 10 goals.

As for Siena Heights, Sunday will be the two program's first-ever meeting, despite their close proximity.

The Saints, who were ranked ninth in the NAIA's most recent national poll, have won three of their last five contests.

Senior Marissa Cirino was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's (IWLCA) co-Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Between Siena Heights last two outings, she tallied 17 points on 11 goals and six assists. She was also named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for the same stat line.

On the season, Cirino actively ranks third in the conference with 26 goals, and fifth with 38 points. Her teammate Lucy Stedam paces the WHAC between the pipes with 73 saves.

A strong performance in net may be necessary to slow down the Bulldogs' winning ways.

Senior Olive Stevens is at the forefront of the local's recent success, averaging five goals per game during the 'Dogs active win-streak. In all, she leads Adrian with 29 points on 23 goals and six assists, as well as 17 caused turnovers and a 0.605 shot percentage.

Fellow fourth-year Carlee Casteel has tallied three or more goals in each of the black and gold's last three contest, and Zoe Weber extended her point-streak to six games on Saturday at Thomas More, contributing two assists in Adrian's 13-9 win over the Saints.

In goal, the Bulldogs introduced Jordan Hunt into the lineup for the first time this season against Thomas More. The freshman collected her first-career win with an eight-save effort. The 'Dogs also have Avery Huxter at their disposal. In five appearances this season, the senior ranks fourth in the MIAA with a 0.474 save percentage, and fifth in both saves (46) and goals-against average (10.2).

As a team, Adrian is outshooting its opponents 161-154, and also controlling the ground game 199-185.

Both of this week's match-ups will include live stats and live video.
