ALMA, Mich. -- Make it six wins in a row for the Adrian College men's lacrosse team as the Bulldogs defeated Alma on the road 15-7.
Chris French led the Bulldogs with six goals on the night while
Michael Jonas netted four. Adrian went on a late run to keep its foot on the gas scoring the final five goals and keeping Alma scoreless in the fourth quarter.
French started the scoring in the first quarter to lead 1-0 on an assist from
Jake Coakley. Alma responded and added another to take the lead, but Jonas found the back of the net to tie the game 2-2 before
Peyton Gasche made it 3-2 Bulldogs. Alma tied the game again in the first, but French netted his second of the game before time ran out and lead 4-3 after the first quarter.
French opened the second quarter with a goal 36 seconds in on an assist from Gasche. Alma answered to bring the Adrian lead back to one, but the Bulldogs went on to score three unanswered goals.
Owen Kelly netted a goal followed by another from Jonas and one from
Cameron Reed on a long pass from goaltender
Sam Spangler to give him an assist. Alma scored one late, but Adrian held an 8-5 lead at halftime.
French came out of the break to open the second half scoring with a pair of unassisted goals to lead 10-5. Alma scored a pair of its own, but it was all Adrian the rest of the way.
Michael Jonas netted one as the clock hit zero in the third quarter to lead 11-7.
Travis Fox added a goal in the fourth on the man-up followed by another from Jonas, one from French, and another from Fox to win 15-7.
To go with the six goals from French and four from Jonas, Gasche and Coakley collected four assists each. On defense,
AJ Hayes finished with three caused turnovers while French and Reed added a pair.
Spangler picked up his tenth win of the season allowing seven goals while making 11 saves in the cage. Spangler recorded his 100th save of the season and his career as the freshman also ranks sixth in wins in a single season.
Adrian returns to action on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00 PM inside Docking Stadium as they host Calvin University and look to move to 3-0 in conference play.
