ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's rugby team hosted the Adrian 7's Tournament featuring the Bulldogs, Michigan State, and two teams from Davenport University. Adrian opened the night honoring its two seniors,
Kathleen Droba and
Nira Fowler. After the senior day ceremony, the Bulldogs went on to defeat Michigan State 15-0. After the match, the Bulldogs suffered back-to-back losses to Davenport to end the night.
Nira Fowler opened the scoring against Michigan State with an early try to lead 5-0.
Shyann Ronning followed up with a try of her own to lead 10-0 at the half. The only scoring in the second half came from Gabrielle Jex who ran in for another try and lead 15-0 resulting in the final score.
The Bulldogs struggled in the second match of the night against Davenport where the team was shutout 27-0.
Adrian took on Davenport again in a rematch and came out strong to start. Ronning scored the first try of the match to lead 5-0 followed by a successful conversion from
Madison Williamson. Jex went on to score to extend the lead which was also followed by a successful conversion from Williamson to lead 14-0. Davenport scored to make the score 14-7, but Jex answered to lead 19-7. Davenport got in the endzone again to end the half and bring the score to 19-14 Adrian. The Bulldogs struggled coming out of the break being held scoreless as Davenport came back to win the final match of the night 33-19.
Adrian returns to the pitch on the road at Baldwin Wallace in another 7's tournament scheduled to be held in Berea, Ohio on Sunday, April 24.
