ADRIAN, Mich – The Adrian College women's rugby team hosted Taylor University for three matches on Saturday at the Sweebe Family Indoor Athletic Center. The Bulldogs fell 34-0 in the opening match before battling the Trojans to a 17-17 tie in the second contest. Adrian closed the day with a narrow 22-19 loss.
Match 1: Taylor 34, Adrian 0
Taylor controlled the opening match, scoring six tries on its way to a 34-0 victory. The Trojans converted two of their six tries as the Bulldogs were held scoreless.
Match 2: Taylor 17, Adrian 17
Adrian responded in the second match behind three tries from Mia Gaetjens. Gaetjens opened the scoring for the Bulldogs before Taylor answered with a pair of tries.
The Trojans added another converted try before Gaetjens completed the hat trick with her third try, while Jorja Pennington added the conversion to bring the Bulldogs even and secure a 17-17 tie.
Match 3: Taylor 22, Adrian 19
Taylor struck first before Jorja Pennington answered with a try and conversion for Adrian. Mia Gaetjens later added a try, with Pennington converting to add two more points.
Laneigh Shinners scored the Bulldogs' final try of the match, but Taylor held on for the 22-19 victory.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, September 26 when they travel to Upland, Indiana, for a rematch with Taylor University.
