ANGOLA, Ind. -- It was a rough start to the busy week for the Adrian College baseball team as they traveled to Trine University to finish the three game series. Trine ended up winning the series 2-1 after taking game three on Tuesday by a score of 22-14.
Adrian took an early lead in the top of the first on a RBI double from
Andrew Atherton to lead 1-0. Trine responded with three in the bottom of the first, but the Bulldogs bounced back.
Don Goodes reached on a fielders choice which brought home a pair of runs on an error. Atherton had another double to drive in Goodes to lead 4-3 before
AJ Miranda singled in a run to lead by two.
Trine scored in the bottom of the inning, but
Ty Peck responded with a single to lead 6-4. Trine tied the game 6-6 before
Ryan Davis singled in a run and
Easton Rogers doubled in a run to retake the lead. Trine tied the game again, but back game the Bulldogs. Davis homered in the sixth followed by a double from Rogers, and singles from Peck and Atherton to lead 13-8.
Trine homered in the bottom of the six to trail 13-10 and later exploded for 11 runs in the seventh to lead 21-13. The Thunder added another in the eighth before
Gus Weaks singled in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to spark a rally.
Atherton finished 3-for-5 at the plate for the Bulldogs with four RBIs.
The Bulldogs look to bounce back with a huge day at Hope College where they will play a doubleheader after resuming their suspended game from earlier in the season. Adrian and Hope are currently tied in the top of the eight at 4-4 and will resume where things left off. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
