HOLLAND, Mich. -- A busy day at the ballpark for the Adrian College baseball team as they played three games against Hope College. The Bulldogs and the Dutchmen began the day resuming a suspended game from April 8 where they were tied 4-4 in the eighth before an injury to an umpire suspended the game. After the conclusion of the suspended game, Adrian and Hope battled in the MIAA doubleheader. Hope finished the suspended game with a 6-4 victory before defeating Adrian 6-3 and 8-5 to finish the sweep.
In the suspended game, Hope started the day with bases loaded an one out with the top of the order at the plate. Hope drove in two on a single to take the lead. The Bulldogs went scoreless in the eighth and ninth inning, and Hope came away with the game one victory.
In game one of the scheduled doubleheader, Adrian jumped out to an early lead at 3-0 heading into the bottom of the second.
Don Goodes reached base to begin the game and was later driven in to lead 1-0 after the first inning. In the second inning,
Easton Rogers homered to lead 2-0 followed by an RBI single from
Ty Peck extend the lead to 3-0. Hope went on to score six unanswered runs to come away with a 6-3 win in the seven inning game.
Adrian scored first again in the final game of the day on a bases loaded walk after the bases were walked loaded. Hope scored in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch to tie the game 1-1. Hope added a pair in the third inning on a throwing error and a double to lead Adrian 3-1. The Bulldogs game back on a pair of wild pitches to score two runs and tie the game 3-3. Hope homered in the sixth inning to take the lead followed by a bases loaded hit by pitch to lead 5-3.Â
Don Goodes homered in the eighth inning which was backed up with a RBI single from Valentine to tie the game again at 5-5. Hope went on a run in the bottom of the inning to answer with three to go on and win the game 8-5.
This was the first time Adrian lost a series to Hope since 2013 and the first time they were swept by Hope since 2002.
Adrian has another quick turnaround as they travel to Albion College to continue another suspended game in the fourth inning tied 3-3. First pitch tomorrow is schedule for 2:00 PM.
