OLIVET, Mich. -- The Adrian College baseball team exploded for 28 runs in Saturday's game against Olivet College to take game on of the three game series. The Bulldogs scored in every inning except the sixth to come away with a 28-8 victory. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the first, four in the second, one in the third, and six in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.
The Bulldogs got going early scoring the first run of the ballgame on a RBI single from
Ryan Davis.
Easton Rogers drove in a pair on a single to center followed by a 2-RBI double by
Gus Weaks. Olivet scored a pair in the bottom half of the inning, but Adrian added four more in the second.
AJ Miranda drove in two runs on a single to left field followed by sacrifice fly by Rogers and a RBI single from
Dylan Johnson. In the third inning, Miranda drove in another run for the Bulldogs on a sac fly to lead 10-2. Olivet went on to score a pair in the bottom of the third, but back came the Bulldogs.
In the fourth inning,
Aaron Valentine scored on a throwing error followed by abases loaded walk to
Ty Peck and a 2-RBI double by
Don Goodes.
David Kedrow singled in a run backed by a fielder's choice from Davis to lead 16-4 after the fourth. Six more runs for the Bulldogs in the fifth after Peck began the scoring with a RBI double. Goodes walked with the bases loaded with Weaks scoring on a wild pitch. Kedrow recorded a RBI on a sac fly before Davis and Valentine drove in more runs on back-to-back doubles to lead 22-4. In the bottom of the fifth, Olivet managed to score four runs to make it 22-8. Linkin Hayward checked into the game and doubled in a run to make it 23-8. Johnson went on to homer in the seventh to score three which was followed by a homer from
Owen Brown to score two more and make it 28-8.
The 28 runs for Adrian came up one run shy of tying a program record for most runs in a single game. The Bulldogs scored 29 runs against Tiffin University on March 26, 2000 to set the record. The only other time the Bulldogs finished a game with 28 runs was on February 28, 1999 in a nonconference game against Alma College in Fort Myers, Florida.
Dylan Johnson led the offense with four hits in five at bats with four RBIs, a walk, and a home run.
Andrew Giorno struggled a bit on the bump for the Bulldogs, but managed to come away with the win. Giorno went five innings allowing eight runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs will take the field on Sunday, April 24 in a doubleheader against Olivet College to wrap up the series. First pitch of tomorrow's doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
