BEREA, Ohio -- The Adrian College women's rugby team competed for the last time this season on Sunday at Baldwin Wallace. What was supposed to be a multi-team tournament, was switched to just a three game set between Baldwin Wallace and Adrian. The Bulldogs came away 3-0 on the day with wins of 41-5, 25-5, and 21-15.
Baldwin Wallace took an early 5-0 lead in the first match, but the Bulldogs went on to score 41 unanswered points. Gabby Jax score to tie the match followed by a try from
Madison Williamson who followed it up with a conversion to lead 12-5.
Mary Robinson scored her first career try to extend the lead before another successful conversion from Williamson.
Shyann Ronning scored two tries with a successful conversion on one of them from Williamson before Jex ran her second of the game in. Williamson scored the final try of the match after clicking it forward and dove to touch it down in the corner of the tryzone.
In match two, Baldwin Wallace took another early lead to lead 5-0. Ronning scored back-to-back tries for the Bulldogs with a pair of successful conversions from Williamson to go up 14-5.
Nira Fowler rans a try in from over 50 meters away before Jex ran in the final try of the game.
Kathleen Droba had a big hit off a line out to set Jex up for the try leading to another successful conversion from Williamson.
In the third match of the day, Baldwin Wallace took an 10-0 lead four minutes in. Ronning scored the Adrian on an assist from Jex which was followed by a conversion from Williamson to make it 10-7. Baldwin Wallace went on to extend its lead to 15-7, but the Bulldogs battled back. Ronning ran in a pair of tries for Adrian which were both backed with a successful conversion from Williamson to grab to 21-15 win.
"They truly had a complete day as a team, they played so well on attack and defense," sadi head coach
John Gulden. "Big hits and long runs, it was great to see. They have grown so much this year as a team I hate to see the season end, but we are looking forward to the fall."
The Bulldogs finish its 7-on-7 season to complete its inaugural season. Adrian will return to action in the fall where they will compete in 15-on-15.
