ADRIAN, Mich. - On Wednesday evening, the Adrian women's lacrosse team played its final game at Docking Stadium for the 2022 season, hosting Hope College in its penultimate conference match-up.
Behind a 10-goal first half, the visiting Dutchmen fended off an early push by the 'Dogs in the second half to come away with an 18-7 victory.
Olive Stevens recorded her second consecutive four-goal effort to pace the home in scoring, while
Brooke Barabas,
Joscelyn Potter and
Cassidy McGeorge each tacked on a goal apiece.
Maggie Bean also got in on the offense for Adrian, registering her first point of the season since March 2 with an assist in the third quarter.
Hope opened things up with a goal in the initial 20 seconds of action, and eventually expanded its lead up to 3-0 after just over four minutes gone.
Stevens put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard shortly after the Dutchmen's third goal, she then added a second to her name later in the first frame, but not before Hope put up another trio of goals to go ahead 6-2 after one quarter of play.
The Dutch would rally off four-straight scores to begin the second quarter, followed by a free position conversion by McGeorge to close out the first half.
In the third frame, the black and gold trailed by as many as nine before stringing together a stretch of back-to-back-to-back marks, including two by Stevens to pull back into contention, down 12-6.
From that point, however, the advantage fell to Hope, as they went on to outscore Adrian 6-1 to seal the deal.
All told, the Bulldogs scooped up 26 ground balls and forced 10 turnovers.
In goal,
Avery Huxter made her first start since March 9 against Heidelberg, stopping nine shots in three quarters of work.
The women's lacrosse team will conclude its 2022 campaign on the road at Calvin University on Friday afternoon. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
