ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Adrian College women's rugby team competed over the weekend in the Great Lake 7's Tournament hosted by Grand Valley State University. The Bulldogs finished 3-1 with their only loss coming in the championship game to be named Runner-Ups of the tournament. The tournament served as the Great Lakes Conference Women's Division I Qualifier.
Adrian opened the day against Saginaw Valley State University coming away with a 29-5 win.
Shyann Ronning picked up a pair of first half tries to lead the Bulldogs to a 10-5 halftime lead. Ronning scored two more tries in the second half followed by a try from
Andrea Leach-King.
Madison Williamson converted on a pair of tries in the second half.
Adrian went on to defeated Western Michigan University in game two of the day by a score of 22-5. Western Michigan struck first, but Leach-King ran in a try to tie 5-5 at halftime.
Gabby Jex picked up a try followed by two from Ronning. Williamson added another conversion for the Bulldogs.
Adrian then shutout Oakland University 17-0 in the third game of the day. Ronning scored to start for Adrian followed by a conversion from Williamson. Later in the half, Ronning ran in another to lead 12-0 at the break. Ronning completed the scoring for the Bulldogs to finish with three tries in the game.
The final game of the day was the championship against Grand Valley State. The Bulldogs dropped the championship match to finish in second in the tournament. The lone try came from Leach-King and a conversion from Williamson as the Bulldogs fell 36-7.
Adrian's next contest will be at home as they host the Adrian College 7's Tournament starting at 5:00 PM in Docking Stadium.
