LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team traveled to Lake Forest, Illinois to take on the Foresters in another NCHA series. The Bulldogs trailed 3-0 early in the game, but bounced back to force overtime and eventually win in a shootout. The game is marked as a 4-4 tie, but Adrian earns points in the conference standings with a 3-2 shootout victory.
Lake Forest scored three goals in the first period to lead 3-0 with all three coming on the power play. Adrian struck in the second period on a power play goal from
Chase Spencer to bring the score to 3-1. Four minutes later, the Foresters responded to increase the lead back to three, but Adrian cut it to one before the end of the period.
Jacob Suede scored to make it 4-2 before
Mathew Rehding netted a power play goal.
The Bulldogs had the only goal of the third period to force overtime. Halfway through the period, Lake Forest was sent to the box giving Adrian another power play opportunity.
Hunter Wendt found the back of the net to tie the game at 4-4. The game went scoreless the rest of regulation and overtime forcing a shootout.
Rehding scored the first goal of the shootout which was later followed by a good goal from
Alessio Luciani. Lake Forest was successful on its first two attempts before Adrian goaltender
Dershahn Stewart made four consecutive saves. In the sixth round of the shootout,
Ryan Pitoscia was the deciding factor scoring the final goal to win.
Stewart recorded 32 saves in goal for Adrian on Friday night with nine in the first, ten in the second, eight in the third, and five in overtime. Stewart moves to 7-1-2 on the season.
Adrian will look to grab a win tomorrow afternoon when they wrap up the series with Lake Forest at 5:00 PM EST.
