HIRAM, Ohio – The Adrian College men's volleyball team completed a 3-0 sweep at the Hiram quad Saturday after defeating Kentucky State and Hiram College.
In the Bulldogs first matchup of the afternoon versus Kentucky State, Chase Heuer led all players with nine kills, Andrew Gawrisch led all players with a game high 19 assists, and Jacob Rembulat had a game high nine digs this afternoon. The Bulldogs would only trail by as much as two points throughout the entirety of the match, which occurred in the beginning stages of the second set. As a team the Bulldogs outperformed Kentucky State in every major category outside of blocks, which Kentucky State led 6-5.
The men's volleyball team would continue their dominance with a 3-2 down-to-the-wire win over Hiram College this evening. Again the Bulldogs would have their backs against the wall facing a 2-0 deficit against Hiram. The Bulldogs strung together three straight set wins to come out victorious against Hiram College. Heuer had a team high 14 kills while Gawrisch recorded a total of 40 assists. Rembulat led all players with 11 digs in the match.
The tournament created an All-Tournament Team featuring three members of the Adrian team. Heuer, Gawrisch, and Beck Fieldhouse all earned All-Tournament Team status.
Historical Notes: Today marked the first time in program history that Adrian College and Kentucky state would face off against one another. Additionally, with their win against Hiram College, the Bulldogs would advance their series lead to 3 games to none. The Bulldogs, led by head coach Jose Soto, are off to their first 3-0 start in program history.
Up Next: The Bulldogs will travel to Illinois to play in the Concordia Chicago quad, starting January 27 at 2:00 PM. The Bulldogs will face Illinois Wesleyan University in the evening at 5:00 PM to conclude the quad .
