ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team opened up CCWHA conference play with a home and home series with Grand Valley State University over the weekend, splitting with the Lakers, losing 1-0 in the first game, but bouncing back to win 7-1 in the second game.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Lakers 70-7 in Friday's contest in Grand Rapids, but did not manage to find the back of the net. The Lakers potted one late in the game to secure the victory. Goaltender,
Chloe Burt, was between the pipes for Adrian.
The two teams met again on Saturday night in the Arrington Ice Arena to close out the series, with the Bulldogs seeking revenge. Adrian jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from
Rhea Peterson and
Neleh Wood before Grand Valley potted one to make it 2-1 after one period of play. The Bulldogs answered back in the second period with two more goals from Peterson to complete the hat-trick and goals from
Macy Piche and
Hailey Wiltshire to make it 6-1 after two frames. The Bulldogs would add another tally late in the third thanks to
Tyla Turnbull to finish with a commanding 7-1 victory. Freshman forward,
Sydney White, collected four assists in the game and Burt stopped eight of nine shots for the win in goal.
The WD1 Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday, October 15 when they face off against the London Devilettes in an exhibition game. Puck drop will be at 4:00 PM in the Arrington Ice Arena.
