ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team hosted Aurora University on Friday night to open the two-game weekend series. The Bulldogs came away with a 4-1 victory over the Spartans. Adrian College partnered with the Catherine Cobb Safehouse of Adrian and hosted Domestic Violence Awareness night. Friday night's game also served as public address announcer, Dave Van Geison's, 900
th career game.
Adrian trailed after the first period, 1-0 after a late Aurora goal. The Bulldog offense came alive in the second period on a goal from
Courtney Ben marking her first as a Bulldog. Shortly after,
Hunter Reardon scored to take the lead 2-1. Twenty-nine seconds later,
Aileena Dopheide scored to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-1.
The third period was scoreless until Aurora pulled its goaltender. With less than a minute to go, the Bulldogs scored a shorthanded, empty net goal from
Nicole Pietrucha which became her first career goal.
Maya Roy recorded three assists on the night while
Annie Gilbert recorded 32 saves in goal.
The Bulldogs will look to finish the sweep tomorrow afternoon when they rematch with Aurora at 3:00 PM.
