ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team hosted Trine University in the Semifinal round of the Harris Cup Playoffs. The Bulldogs came away with a 6-2 win on Saturday night to defeat the Thunder. With the win, Adrian advances to the Harris Cup Finals next weekend.
In the first period,
Matus Spodniak started the scoring just over a minute into play. Adrian led 1-0 after the first period before
Chase Spencer extended the lead early in the second to go up 2-0. Trine answered to make it a 2-1 game, but
Alessio Luciani scored a power play goal to put the Bulldogs up 3-1.
In the third period, Luciani snuck in a goal to extend the lead to 4-1. Trine bounced back and made it a two-goal game again, but was later forced to pull its goaltender. Cam Babiak scored his first goal of his career on Saturday night on an empty net goal from the opposite blue line. With less than a minute to play,
Mathew Rehding stole a puck to net a second empty netter and win 6-2.
Nic Tallarico had himself a night in goal for Adrian. Tallarico faced 35 shots and made 33 saves. He recorded 10 saves in the first period, 11 in the second, and 12 in the third.
The Bulldogs will move on to face Aurora University who defeated St. Norbert College 4-3 in the other Semifinal game. The Harris Cup Championship is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 4 at 7:00 PM at the Arrington Ice Arena.
