Men's Hockey Completes Sweep over Aurora to Hold First Place Spot in NCHA Standings

ADRIAN, Mich. – After moving into first place in the NCHA standings last night, the Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team looked to improve on their point total in game two of the weekend series against Aurora. The Bulldogs picked up where they left off from last night as they picked up an 8-2 win over the Spartans.

The majority of the first period went scoreless for both teams. With 35 seconds to go in the period, Riley Murphy found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, Adrian added to its lead. Ty Enns took advantage of a power play by scoring a goal to make it 2-0. Later in the period, Connor May grabbed a takeaway and went top shelf to extend the lead to 3-0. With under two minutes to go in the period, Aurora struck on the power play to bring the score to 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

The Bulldogs piled on goals in the third period in route to an 8-2 victory. Matus Spodniak recorded his 22nd goal of the season as he continues to lead the nation in scoring. Murphy went on to score short handed to lead 5-1 and followed it up two minutes later with a power play goal to record his third of the game. John Kaljian added a goal to lead 7-1 before Aurora scored their second on a power play. Late in the period, Sam Ruffin added the team's eighth goal of the game to complete the blowout.

Nic Tallarico got the start for Adrian in goal on Saturday afternoon where he recorded 23 saves to go along with an assist on the afternoon.

Adrian totals 37 points in the NCHA standings to hold on to the first-place spot. The Bulldogs need one more win to lock up the NCHA Peters Cup. Next weekend, Adrian will travel to St. Norbert for a two-game series on the road scheduled to begin on Friday, February 10.
