ADRIAN, Mich. -– On Wednesday evening, the Adrian College men's volleyball team lost to Trine University three sets to none, snapping a two game win streak. Andrew Gawrisch recorded a team high eight kills on the night to lead the Bulldogs Wednesday.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs found themselves behind early Wednesday evening, after trailing Trine University 13-8 in the first set. After opening the set with a five-point disadvantage, the men's volleyball team would quickly outscore the Thunder 10-7 to inch closer to a first set deadlock. The run would be capped off by a Trine attack error that inched the Bulldogs within one at 18-17. Later on, the men's volleyball team would capitalize on a combined three Trine service and attack errors on the defensive end. Ultimately in the second half of the set, the Bulldogs were able to tie it up at 25 apiece after out-scoring Trine 17-12. However, Adrian College would commit an attack error and Trine would supply a service ace to conclude the close 27-25 first set in favor of the Thunder.
Adrian College began the second set of play with a 3-1 run after kills from Gawrisch, Zach Molnar, and a Trine attacking error. After a back and forth for the lead, Trine would tie the set eventually at seven all. After the game was at a standstill, Trine would outscore the Bulldogs over the second half of the set 18-6 to take a 2-0 lead heading into the third.
In the third set, the men's volleyball team would open up a five-point lead off of a 6-1 run: After a service ace by Beck Fieldhouse and kills by Chase Heuer and Gawrisch, Trine would commit an array of errors to help increase the Bulldog lead. Despite the early lead, Trine would claw back and tie the set up at 12 all, after outscoring Adrian 11-6. Now behind 16-14, the Bulldogs would group some stops to tie the set back up at 17 all: After a block by Carson Bell and Heuer, Gawrsich would follow by recording a kill. Trine would encounter yet another attack error to tie the set at 17 apiece. Despite the rally, the Thunder would close the game on an 8-1 run to take the third and final set.

Gawrisch, Molnar, and Heuer combined for 22 kills, while Gawrisch and David Barona supplied 13 assists each.

The Bulldogs will travel to Buffalo, New York to compete in the Medaille Trimatch on Sunday, March 19. Game one will take place at 10 AM against Medaille College and game two will begin at noon against Elmira College.
