Bulldogs Win Third Straight After Sweep Over Manchester University

North Manchester, IN. – On Wednesday, March 29, the Adrian College softball team recorded its third straight victory after sweeping Manchester University this evening. In game one the Bulldogs won 7-0, while in game two, the softball team would defeat the Spartans 3-1. 

Game One

During the first game of the midweek doubleheader, the Bulldogs had no trouble getting on the scoreboard Wednesday. In the first inning the softball team opened the contest with two runs off of a Paige Stein home run, scoring teammate Karson Bagelmann in the process. The sophomore's home run marked the first of her career, and the Bulldogs were able to take a commanding lead in the first inning Wednesday.

Later in the top of the third inning, the Bulldogs would strike again. Hailey DeChalk would single, and Maggie Leveille walked to bring Ava Ferrarelli up to the plate with only one out. Ferrarelli took advantage of the situation and doubled to right field, scoring DeChalk and advancing Leveille to third on the play. The Bulldogs would end the inning with a 3-0 lead over the Spartans. 

As the game progressed, the Bulldogs would see their largest run total of three occur in the top of the fourth inning. After advancing on a fielder's choice, Bagelmann would score after Leveille reached first on an error by the Manchester shortstop. Eventually, Ferrarelli singled to left center and DeChalk and Stein would score to give the Bulldogs a commanding 6-0 lead. 

After singles by Ava WolfeAshley Myers, and Makenzi Johnson, the Bulldogs would score their final run of the game. Wolfe would score on an error by the Manchester third baseman, and the Bulldogs would take game one with a 7-0 victory.


Game Two 

In the closing game of Wednesday's action, the Bulldogs faced a more competitive Manchester University team. In the top of the second inning, the Bulldogs managed to score two runs to claim a 2-0 lead over the Spartans. During the inning, DeChalk would single and Leveille followed with a double to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead early in the game. After an error by the Spartan third baseman, Ferrarelli reached first and would eventually advance to second. During the play Ferrarelli picked up an RBI as would reach home. The Bulldogs would threaten again, but were unable to score the remainder of the inning. 

After allowing a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Bulldogs would respond by scoring a run of their own in the top half of the next inning. Brynn McKay, the first batter of the fifth, tripled down the right field line. Next, Meghan Lupugrounded out and drove in McKay to give the softball team a 3-1 lead over the Spartans. In the bottom half of the inning, Manchester salvaged a walk but nothing more, as the Bulldogs completed the two game sweep Wednesday. 

Top Dawgs 

In game one, Ferrarelli recorded a game high three hits, while pitcherAbbi Patton allowed a total of three hits. In game two, Leveille recorded a hit and an RBI for the Bulldogs.

The Adrian College softball team will Square off with Ohio Wesleyan University in a double header on Saturday, April 1. Game one will take place at 1:00 PM, while game two will follow at 3:00 PM.
