PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Adrian College baseball team wrapped up its trip down south with a doubleheader on Saturday. The Bulldogs began the day with Swarthmore struggling with a 16-13 loss, but bounced back and defeated Rhode Island College 10-4.
GAME 1
- Swarthmore jumped out to a 4-0 lead after starting the game with a strong first inning.
- Edward Wagner doubled in a pair followed by an RBI groundout from Logan Loeffler to make it 4-3 entering the second inning.
- Swarthmore added a run in the third inning followed by four in the fifth to lead 9-3.
- Ryan Davis homered in the bottom of the fifth followed by another homer from Easton Rogers to put the Bulldogs down one.
- Swarthmore continued to score adding one in the sixth, one in the seventh, and five in the eighth.
- The Bulldogs began its comeback entering the bottom of the eighth down 16-8. Alejandro Montada singled in a run which was backed by an RBI double from Davis to make it 16-10.
- In the ninth inning, Adrian scored three runs to fall short of the comeback and lose 16-13.
- Jaxon Clark recorded the loss in 4.1 innings of work allowing eight runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
GAME 2
- The Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Davis and an RBI single from Joe Casale.
- Rhode Island College homered in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 2-2, and later took the lead in the third on a passed ball.
- Adrian took the lead in the third and held on for good. David Kedrow singled in a run to tie the game. Adrian Gutierrez reached on an error which scored two runs.
- Davis homered again in the fourth inning to lead 7-3.
- Jack Boike hit a 2-RBI single in the sixth inning followed by another Rhode Island error to give Adrian a 10-3 lead. Rhode Island scored in the sixth, but couldn't put together a comeback giving Adrian the win.
- Griffin Firestine went four innings on the mound allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Jakob Charles earned the win in relief with five innings of work allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs will take a week off before heading down to Greensboro, North Carolina for a three-game set hosted by Greensboro. Game one of the weekend will begin Friday, March 10 at 2:00 PM.
