SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Adrian College women's golf team opened up the MIAA Automatic Qualifier on Tuesday afternoon as No. 2 seed Saint Mary's served as the host. The Bulldogs shot a 313 as a team to sit in second place after the opening round. The Bulldogs put themselves in a good position entering the final two rounds at home this weekend as they trail by just one stroke.
Taylor Ross and
Riley Kleck led the Bulldogs each shooting 77 for the opening round. Ross and Kleck both shot +5 for the day with Kleck leading the field with 12 pars followed by 11 from Ross.
Olivia Ohmer shot a 78 for the round to finish +6 on the afternoon followed by an 81 from
Sara Bevington and an 81 from
Lauren Reed.
After day one, Saint Mary's sits in first place with a 312 followed by Adrian in second with a 313. Hope College placed third in the opening round with a 318 while Alma College struggled and shot 346.
Adrian will have the home course advantage entering the weekend as they host the final two Automatic Qualifying rounds at the Tecumseh Golf Club. The Bulldogs hosted a MIAA Jamboree in the fall in which they won the round by 14 strokes as the rest of the conference struggled.
Round two of the MIAA Automatic Qualifier will tee off on Friday at 1:00 PM followed by the final round on Saturday starting at 11:00 AM.
