Albion, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team maintained its record at 10 games above .500 after its doubleheader split against Albion College Wednesday evening with a 4-0 loss in game one and a 4-1 victory in game two. In game one, Ava Ferrarelli and Brynn McKay led the Bulldogs with a hit each. In game two, pitcher Macee Schang posted her seventh win in eight appearances for the Bulldogs after recording seven strikeouts.
GAME ONE
During the first half of game one in Wednesday's doubleheader, the Bulldogs and Britons battled in a closely contested contest, with neither team scoring in the game's first three and a half innings. After going one, two, three in the top half of the first inning, the Bulldogs saw their first hit of the afternoon off a single by Ferrarelli in the top of the second inning. Despite the hit, Ferrarelli was left on base at the conclusion of the second. Later in Wednesday's first contest, Albion would break the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fourth after recording two hits in the inning. During the following inning, McKay would single, but the Bulldogs were unable to advance the sophomore before the third and final out of the fifth. Later in the bottom of the fifth inning, Albion College took a commanding 4-0 lead after scoring three runs against the Adrian College softball team. The Bulldogs did not record a hit in the final two innings and dropped game one 4-0.
GAME TWO
On Wednesday evening, game two of the doubleheader began in a similar fashion as its predecessor, with both teams deadlocked at zero all until the bottom of the third inning as the Bulldogs were able to tack on four runs in the inning enroute to taking a 4-0 lead over Albion. To start the inning off for Adrian's offense, Flesia Borck singled to left field and followed up her hit by stealing second base. Later in the inning, Karson Bagelmann reached first on an error by Albion's second baseman. During the play, Borck would score and the Bulldog offense continued to pile on runs in the inning. Following Brock's run, Bagelmann would steal second, to mark her second stolen base of the game and her 18th of the season to continue the pressure on Albion's defense. Ferrarelli would then single to center field and Bagelmann advanced to third. After Shaw substituted to pinch run for Ferrarelli, she would steal second with Peyton Russell up to bat. Russell delivered a single to left field and scored Shaw and Bagelmann to give the Bulldogs a commanding 4-0 lead as the game advanced to the top of the fourth Wednesday.
During the top of the fourth, Albion salvaged one run against Adrian's defense. Throughout the inning, four Albion batters reached base. With the bases loaded and nobody out, the sophomore pitcher Schang recorded three consecutive outs to end the top half of the inning to maintain the Bulldog lead at three. Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of game two and the Bulldogs ended Wednesday's doubleheader with their fourth conference victory of the year.
