Schang, Patton, Make Program History As Softball Team Wins 20 Plus Games For the First Time Since ‘12 On Senior Day

ADRIAN, Mich. – On Saturday, April 22, the Adrian College softball team hosted a Senior Day doubleheader against Saint Mary's (Ind.) and honored seniors Hailey DeChalk, Mackenzie Melody, and Lauren Schneider. The Bulldogs would win game one 2-1 and game two 11-9 Saturday.

GAME ONE 

In game one pitcher Abbi Patton recorded her 11th victory of the year, after allowing only one run during the entire contest. Karson Bagelmann led all players with a game-high four hits in Saturday's opening game.

In the bottom of the third inning, Bagelmann broke the 0-0 tie with her first career home run as a Bulldog with a solo shot to give Adrian College a 1-0 lead. 

During the top of the fifth inning St. Mary's would tie the game at one all after a pair of singles. Both teams would remain scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning. During the inning, Brynn McKay drove in Flesia Borck, who scored the game-winning run. 

GAME TWO

In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader Adrian would score early in the first inning, after Bagelmann singled to center field, she would steal second to put pressure on the defense. After back-to-back defensive errors, Baglemann advanced to third and eventually took home. 

In the third inning, Maggie Leveille reached first on a defensive error and McKay scored during the play. Later, Stein singled to center field, which scored Shaw. The Bulldogs would lead 3-0 after three innings. 

The Bulldogs continued to tack on more runs in the fifth inning. Bagelmann would single and drive in Makenzi Johnson. Later in the inning, McKay singled to center field and drove in Bagelmann and Melody. 

During the top of the sixth inning, Adrian College would continue the scoring after Meghan Lupu doubled to left center. During the play, Lupu drove in Peyton Russell to improve the lead to 6-0. In the top of the eighth inning, Russell homered and drove in two runs to give the Bulldogs an 11-9 victory. Today, the freshman Russell posted a career-high of four hits and led all players in the hitting department in game two. 

Historical Notes 

Winning seven out of their last eight games, the Adrian College softball team continued its best season in over a decade. With today's sweep over St.Mary's, the Bulldogs are now 22-10 and have won more than 20 games for the first time since 2012. Additionally, this afternoon's sweep marks the second time since 2015, that the Adrian College softball team will conclude its season with a winning record. Additionally, Patton recorded her 11th win of the season, which is tied for the 10th best for wins in a single season in program history. Patton's teammate Macee Schang also picked up a victory, her 12th of the year, which is tied for ninth best in a single season in program history.
