ADRIAN, Mich. -- The day started off with a physical match against BGSU, who were able to win one-on-one matchups to score their two tries. Although the Bulldogs defended well, we were unable to break the gain line and fell 10-0.
In the second match of the day against MSU's A-side, we brought much more energy and physicality to the pitch.
Audrey Moore smashed through three defenders to score our first try of the day, but MSU's finishing speed proved too much for us to handle and the contest ended at 5-32 in MSU's favor.
In the last match of the tournament the Bulldogs were finally able to get into the win column against Michigan. After going down 0-10 early in the first half, Moore once again powered through the defense with a bruising run with support from Sam Krawczyk and Teagan Dawson, who offloaded to
Erin Clay for a try to end the half.
The Bulldogs were dialed in for the 2nd half as a quick poach by Dawson led to yet another charge by Moore, finishing her run with a no-look pass to
Alyssa Luzkow who raced in to tie the game. More defensive pressure left Michigan stuck in their own 22 and attempting to clear the line by kicking. Dawson was waiting in the backfield however, and beat Michigan's chasers to score the first try of her rugby career! The match ended with a familiar sight as Moore and
Madisyn McDonald supported each other down the sideline, capping off with Moore's 2nd try.
This tournament was a strong end to a busy Spring season that saw full commitment from the team. Our women worked hard and grew closer than ever before throughout our training, and each person left their blood, sweat, and tears on the pitch for their teammates.
"As a coach I couldn't be more proud of this group of athletes," said head coach Mike Bowen. "I can't wait to continue our journey together next Fall!"
