Women’s Lacrosse Honors Anheuser, Leuneberg, McGeorge, & Potter, During Senior Day vs. St.Mary’s

ADRIAN, Mich.  –  The Adrian College women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, April 22 against St. Mary's and honored seniors Jenna Anheuser, Emily Leuneberg, Cassidy McGeorge, and Joscelyn Potter before the start of Saturday's action. The Bulldogs would drop Saturday's contest 13-8, and five Bulldogs would score, including seniors Anheuser and McGeorge.

How It Happened

The women's lacrosse team found themselves down early to St.Mary's 3-0 in the game's first five minutes. Later, during the 9:29 mark of the opening frame, Melaina Springer scored her 41st goal of the season off an assist by Anheuser to cut St.Mary's lead to two. The Belles would score two more goals during the remainder of the quarter and the Bulldogs found themselves down 5-1 after the first 15 minutes of play Saturday.

In the following quarter, Springer would score her second goal of the day during the eight-minute mark of the second. The goal would extend her career high in games where she would score at least two goals. Springer's strike cut the Bulldog deficit to three. Less than two minutes later, McGeorge found Zoe Weber for her 21st of the season to bring the women's lacrosse team within two for the second time Saturday afternoon. After Adrian College allowed a sixth goal to St.Mary's, Springer found Taylor Gregan for the teams fourth goal of the afternoon. With two minutes remaining in the first half, the Bulldogs would close out the second quarter with a strike by Anheuser, which brought the women's lacrosse team within one at 6-5.

After St.Mary's opened the third quarter with a goal, Weber would find Springer two minutes later to give the Bulldogs their sixth goal of the day. Both teams were held scoreless over the next nine minutes of play and the Belles clinged to a one-goal lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.

St.Mary's would open the final period of play with three goals over the course of the next four minutes to take a 10-6 lead over Adrian College. McGeorge and Emily Crager responded and tacked on two goals for the Bulldogs and the duo had cut the deficit to two, with six and a half minutes remaining in the contest. Despite the rally, the Belles scored three consecutive goals in the game's final five minutes of regulation and would ultimately defeat the Bulldogs 13-8.
