ADRIAN, Mich. — On Wednesday, April 5, Adrian College's newly acquired Tennis Head Coach Robert Hall began his coaching tenure with a women's 9-0 victory and a men's 8-1 victory Wednesday over Olivet College at Merillat Sports & Fitness Center.
In the women's 9-0 sweep Hope Busscher and Maddison Wagner started the afternoon off with an 8-2 doubles victory. Additionally in doubles play junior Jocelyn Smith and freshman MaRynn Corey received an 8-2 doubles victory for the Bulldogs. In singles play, senior Jules Johnson continued her strong play of late, defeating Kennedy Karns in two sets. After her victory Wednesday, Johnson has won five out of her past seven singles matches. The freshman Claire Earley would win in a two-set shutout over her opponent Leah Hopkins. Early has now won four out of her past eight singles matches and Vasiliki Gargasoulas would also shut out her opponent Wednesday, snapping her singles losing streak in the process. To round out women's singles play, freshmen Brooke Posey and Ava Hovey picked up two set singles victories. Today Posey recorded her first career singles victory, while Hovey has now won three out of her last four singles matches.
For the men's team, Nikita Somsonenko and Devin Olivas won an 8-0 shutout in their doubles match today. Other victors were Sean Ruhf andDakota Schneider. In singles play, for the men, William Coffee shut out his opponent in two sets, while Somsonenko would win in two sets as well. Somsonenko would defeat his opponent with 6-1 victories in both sets Wednesday. Additionally, the men's team recorded three wins by forfeit.
Today marked the first time since September 17, 2022, that both the men's and women's tennis teams would acquire a victory on the same day.

The men's and women's tennis teams will look to continue their excellent play when they travel to Alma, Michigan to face the Alma Scotts. The men will play the Scotts on Tuesday, April 11 at 4:00 PM, while the women will play the Scotts on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:00 PM.
