ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Adrian College men's volleyball team completed its season on Saturday afternoon as they faced MCVL opponent Fontbonne University. The Bulldogs finished the year with a 16-12 record overall and finish 3-5 in conference play. The team's overall record marked the best season in program history in winning percentage and ties the most wins in a single season in program history. Adrian's season came to an end after a 3-2 loss to Fontbonne on the road.
The Bulldogs jumped out and grabbed a 2-0 lead after winning the first set 27-25 and the second set 25-22. Unfortunately, Fontbonne was able to figure things out and defeated the Bulldogs 25-22, 25-17, and 15-11 to come back and win the match.
Adrian started the day hot. In the first two sets, the team finished with an attack percentage of .500. The team totaled 17 kills in the first set and 19 kills in the second set. With 30 attacks in each of the two sets, the Bulldogs only recorded two errors in set one and four in set two.
In the third set, the Bulldogs collected only ten kills on five errors followed by 11 kills with nine errors in set four, and six kills with five errors in set five.
Chase Heuer led the team with 24 kills in the match followed by nine from
Andrew Gawrisch and nine from
Beck Fieldhouse.
Branden Gula led the team with three blocks while Gawrisch totaled a team-high 29 assists followed by 20 from
David Barona. Heuer also led the team with ten digs and two aces.
The Bulldogs conclude its season with a 16-12 record and will return in 2024 looking to make a run to the MCVL Tournament.
