HOLLAND, Mich. -- After earning the No. 3 seed to qualify for the MIAA Tournament, the Adrian College men's lacrosse team traveled to Hope College to take on the No. 2 Flying Dutchmen. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Hope came away with the victory at 16-7 to end Adrian's season.
Adrian got out to a slow start to begin the game. Hope College scored first to take a 1-0 lead which was tied 1-1 shortly after by
Michael Jonas. Hope went on to score four straight goals and lead 5-1 after the first.
Alec Winegar and
Brandon Hoerauf scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter to trail 5-3. Hope went on to make the score 8-3 before Jonas scored a man-down goal followed by a man-up goal to make it 8-5. Hope scored again before the end of the half to head into the break with a 9-5 lead.
Hope continued to extend its lead to 12-5 before Winegar scored his second goal of the game with just under nine minutes to go in the third.
Brett Koczenasz scored a goal to make it 13-7 to end the third. Hope held Adrian scoreless in the fourth quarter to defeat the Bulldogs, 16-7.
Cameron Reed led the team with two caused turnovers while
Austin Selvage,
Trenton Garcia,
Riley Edwards, and
Gino Capicchioni each picked up three ground balls.
Sam Spangler started in goal for Adrian where he went on to make ten saves.
The Bulldogs finish the 2023 season with a 9-8 record after advancing to the MIAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The Bulldogs will return and look to make another run to the playoffs in 2024.
