THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Adrian College men's volleyball competed in the second and final day of the Cal Lutheran Quad on Saturday afternoon with matches against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen and the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. Adrian struggled against the pair of nationally ranked opponents falling by a score of 3-0 in both matches.
The Bulldogs began the day with a match against Cal Lutheran. The Kingsmen went on to defeat Adrian by set scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-14. The Bulldogs totaled five kills in the opening set followed by ten kills in the second set, and five in the third. Adrian finished the opening match with a hitting percentage of .062 while Cal Lutheran finished with 34 kills and a hitting percentage of .424.
Chase Heuer led the team with eight kills in the match followed by five from
Sam Landers and four from
Andrew Gawrisch.
William Morris picked up two blocks in the match while David Borona led the team with six digs. Gawrisch led the team with nine assists.
Adrian went on to face the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz later in the afternoon falling 3-0. The Bulldogs drop the sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-14. Adrian finished the opening set with six kills followed by nine in set two, and five in the third set. The team finished with 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .164 while the Banana Slugs finished with 30 kills and a hitting percentage of .283.
Heuer led the team with six kills followed by five from Landers, and three from
Beck Fieldhouse. Gawrisch led the match with 14 assists and three digs.
Adrian will return to action next weekend with a trip to the Chicagoland area for matches against Benedictine University and North Central College on January 19 and 20.
