ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 3 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team hosted No. 14 Niagara University this weekend at the Arrington Ice Arena, taking down the Purple Eagles by scores of 9-1 and 4-3.
In the opening game on Saturday, it was all Bulldogs as they put forward nine goals before Niagara found the back of the net late in the third.
Allison Shaw contributed a hat-trick, while
Ashlynn Stitt,
Rhea Peterson,
Sydney White,
Taylor Gregan,
Tess McKerrow, and
Chloe Gregory (first ACHA goal) rounded out the high powered offensive effort. McKerrow also added five assists and
Macy Piche and
Hailey Wiltshire each provided three helpers. Goaltender
Chloe Burt made eleven saves on twelve shots faced for the win in net.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs and Purple Eagles battled in a much closer, but spirited bout which included 57 penalty minutes combined, with the Bulldogs coming out on top thanks to a late third period go-ahead goal. Peterson, McKerrow, and
Tyla Turnbull found the back of the net for Adrian while Niagara was able to keep themselves in it with three of their own. It was
Neleh Wood who broke the tie with just over five minutes remaining to give the home team the lead and secure the 4-3 win and series sweep. Goaltenders
Jordan Hunt and Burt each saw action in the game for Adrian.
The No. 3 WD1 Bulldogs are back on the ice this week when they travel to No. 10 University of Michigan-Dearborn on Thursday, January 25 for a CCWHA 7:00 PM contest. The team will then return home for a match-up with No. 4 University of Michigan on Saturday, January 27 at 7:00 PM before heading to Ann Arbor on Sunday, January 28 at 4:00 PM for the back half of a CCWHA home and home with the Wolverines.Â
