ANGOLA, Ind. — The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team traveled to Trine University on Friday evening to take on the Thunder in a non-conference contest. The Bulldogs went on to fall in overtime, 5-4
Trine jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period after a slow start for the Bulldogs. With under two minutes to go in the first period, Ayodele Adeniye scored for Adrian to trail 2-1 at the end of the first.
To start the second period, Mathew Rehding scored to tie the game, 2-2. Trine was then awarded a 5-on-3 power play with the help of a 5-minute major against Adrian. The Thunder managed to score twice and take a 4-2 lead. Adrian was then given an extended power play after Trine suffered a 5-minute major. Casey Gerstein scored in his first game as a Bulldog followed by a goal from Ryan Pitoscia to tie the game 4-4 entering the third.
It took overtime to decide a winner, but the Thunder came out ahead, 5-4.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, January 6 when they will face Aurora University in Toledo at the Huntington Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:15 PM.
