ADRIAN, MICH. – The Adrian College club softball team hosted Henry Ford Community College in a double header this past weekend.
The first game was a thrilling battle from the start, with Henry Ford taking an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. However, the Bulldogs quickly responded. Freshman
Sara Kozel sparked a rally in the bottom of the inning, crossing home plate to cut the deficit. Junior
Alexis Hart-Bucher followed suit, evening the score at 2-2.
Momentum shifted in the Bulldogs' favor when freshman
Michelle Huffman delivered a clutch single to center field, driving in sophomore
Alyssa Kamm and giving the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. Henry Ford wasn't done, though, answering back with a run in the fourth to tie the game once again.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kozel came through again, smashing a double to drive in senior
Haley Holmes, putting the Bulldogs back on top. Huffman followed with another big hit, singling up the middle to bring home Kozel, extending the Bulldogs' lead to 5-3.
But Henry Ford fought back in the late innings, rallying with three runs and ultimately holding off the Bulldogs to secure a nail-biting 6-5 victory.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Henry Ford once again jumped out to an early lead. However, the Bulldogs showed resilience, with freshman
Greer Simpson stepping up in a pivotal moment. Simpson smashed a double to center field, driving in two runs and cutting into Henry Ford's lead.
Later in the fifth inning, freshman
Shayna Harper delivered in the clutch, hitting a key single to bring home sophomore
Alyssa Kamm and further narrow the gap. The Bulldogs continued to battle, keeping the game within reach.
The Bulldogs are back in action on October 20 where they will travel to Ann Arbor to take on the University of Michigan.
