LANSING, Mich. – The Adrian College club baseball team traveled to Michigan State University over the weekend to compete in a three-game series. Things didn't go as planned for the Bulldogs as the team struggled at the plate losing all three games 2-1, 2-1, and 6-2. Adrian moves to 4-7 on the season.
In game one, the Bulldogs scored the first run of the game on a Michigan State error to lead 1-0. Michigan state responded with a pair of runs in the inning to grab the lead.
Jaren Sumners was hot at the plate finishing the game 3-for-3.
Jack Florig went the distance on the mound throwing six innings allowed two unearned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
In game two, Adrian pieced together six hits including a double from
Tyler Hall. Adrian's lone run came in the top of the sixth where Hall came around to score on a wild pitch. Michigan State scored their two runs in the fifth on a 2-RBI double.
Michael Hale got the start on the mound where he threw five innings allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the series on Sunday with the final game of the weekend. Michigan State jumped out to a 4-0 lead before
Brock Hudik singled in a run in the top of the third. Michigan State added runs in the bottom of the third and the sixth, before
Logan Keane hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2 and falling shy of the win.
Joe Postma and
Mathyis Neuenkirchen each pitched for the Bulldogs. Postma threw 1.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits. Neuenkirchen threw 6.2 innings allowed three runs on eight hits.
Adrian will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 12 when they host the University of Michigan-Dearborn at Nicolay Field for a doubleheader. Game one will begin at 2:00 PM.
