FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team faced off against the Indiana Tech Warriors in a home-and-home series on Wednesday and Friday of this week. The Bulldogs came out with the sweep after blanking the Warriors, 2-0, on Wednesday at the Arrington Ice Arena and besting the Warriors, 5-3, in Fort Wayne on Friday.
The Bulldogs put together a strong sixty-minute performance against Indiana Tech on Wednesday night, out-shooting the Warriors, 31-23, and holding them off from any offensive production. Goaltender,
Peyton Trzaska, made all 23 saves in his sixth win and third shutout of the year.
Andreas Fleutot and
Sebastian Smith provided the scoring in the series opening win.
In the series closer two days later, the Bulldogs continued to dominate as they tallied twice in the opening frame on Friday evening.
Caleb Minns and Smith found the back of the net to put the road team up 2-0 after one period of play. The Bulldogs continued their attack through the first half of the middle frame, before the Warriors eventually found three goals of their own to capitalize on the Bulldogs, taking a 3-2 lead with five minutes remaining in period two.
Hunter Allen tallied for the Bulldogs shortly after to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the final stanza of play. Adrian came out hot in the third period, illustrating their desire for a sweep. Smith added his third power-play goal of the weekend early in the period before
Matteo Turrin added his eighth of the season late in the game to give Adrian the two-goal cushion. The defensive effort stood tall late in the game as the Bulldogs shut down the Warriors, executing the 5-3 win. Trzaska turned aside 22 shots for his seventh win, improving his squad to 8-1-2 on the season.
The MD1 Bulldogs will travel to Niagara University next week for a two-game series with the Purple Eagles on November 8-9.
