GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Adrian College women's soccer team's incredible 2024 season came to an end on Wednesday night as the Bulldogs fell to the Calvin Knights in the semifinal round of the MIAA Conference Tournament. The #1 seeded Knights tallied three goals at home to hand the #4 seeded Bulldogs the season-diminishing road shutout loss.
After a tight and scoreless majority of the first quarter, Calvin opened the scoring late in the first half to go up a goal at halftime. Early in the second half, the Knights tagged on another to make it 2-0. Later on in the eighty-sixth minute, the Knights found twine for their third of the night to take a commanding 3-0 lead late in the match. The Bulldogs had no answer for the Knights, who exemplified why they were the top team in the conference during the regular season.
Leading for Adrian in Wednesday's match was
Kelsey Zoli who ended the night with three shot attempts, two of them on goal. In goal,
Gabrielle Fallon Revels made five saves and allowed three goals in the loss. In their final games as Bulldogs, Zoli,
Sydney Anderson,
Josie Huber, and
Ellise Fries played all 90 minutes of the match. Junior
Teagan Bergeron and sophomore
Melanie Perhne also saw every minute of the match on Wednesday.
The Adrian College women's soccer team finishes 2024 with a 12-5-1 record, along with a 5-2-1 MIAA conference record. An overall impressive season and a taste of the semifinal round will have the Bulldogs hungry for more in 2025.
