MILWAUKEE, WIS. - The Adrian College men's hockey team wrapped up a weekend series victory, defeating MSOE 7-5 on Saturday afternoon to clinch the series win.
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with junior Alec Lovisek opening the scoring off a slick assist from sophomore Ryan Vellucci. However, MSOE quickly responded with two goals of their own in the first period to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
Adrian came out strong in the second period, with freshman Frank Tafelsky burying the equalizer just a minute into the frame, assisted by graduate student Connor May. MSOE answered shortly after to regain a 3-2 lead, but the Bulldogs refused to back down. Sophomore Ben Loreto and freshman Patrick Saini both found the back of the net within a couple of minutes, putting Adrian ahead 4-3.
With just 10 seconds remaining in the second period, Adrian struck again on the power play, as Saini netted his second goal of the game, with assists from freshman Ryder Nienhuis and sophomore Ian Amsbaugh, giving the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead heading into the final period.
In the third, Adrian extended their lead to 6-3, as sophomore Anton Sorenson scored off an assist from Loreto. MSOE mounted a late charge with a goal to make it 6-4, but the Bulldogs were quick to respond. Tafelsky sealed the victory with his second goal of the night, assisted by Connor May, to make it 7-4.
MSOE added another late tally, but it was too little, too late. Adrian's 7-5 win not only secured the series sweep but also demonstrated the Bulldogs' resilience and depth, with contributions from across the lineup. With a high-powered offense, solid special teams, and key performances from players like Tafelsky, May, and Loreto, Adrian continues to build momentum as they move through the season.
Sophomore Nolan Suggs earned his first victory of the season with his first start of the year in goal.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, December 29th where they host Aurora University in Arrington Ice Arena with puck drop scheduled for 5:00 PM
