No. 2 MD1 Hockey Add Another Sweep; Take Down Toledo in Home-and-Home Battle

TOLEDO, Ohio. -- The No. 2 nationally-ranked Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team added another sweep to its agenda as the Bulldogs erased the University of Toledo Rockets, 8-1 and 4-0, on Thursday and Friday this week in a home-and-home series.

The Bulldogs exploded offensively in their first game back from Thanksgiving break at the Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday evening. Sebastian Smith led the way for the Bulldogs, collecting 2 goals and 3 assists in the game, while Matthew DiCesare (2G, 2A) and Justin Jamer (4A) each registered four points apiece. Rounding out the scoring for Adrian in the opening win was Blake Wideman, Ethan McLaughlin who scored twice and added an assist, and Matteo Turrin, who added his tenth of the season while shorthanded. Adrian netminder, Peyton Trzaska, grabbed his twelfth win of the season, making 17 saves in the 8-1 beat down. Cyrus Toth, Blake Hiltermann, Andreas Fleutot, and Dylan Gajewski added helpers in the contest.

Adrian hit the road for a short drive down to the Toledo Ice House on Friday afternoon to wrap the series, where they collected their seventh shutout of the season, shutting down the Rockets by a 4-0 score. DiCesare opened the scoring on the power-play early in the game for Adrian, before Cameron Armstrong sniped one past the Toledo tender to make it 2-0 after one period of play. Second period action resulted in a goal from freshman forward, Brandon Nye, his first as a Bulldog to make it 3-0 after two periods. As the game continued on in the final frame, the Rockets held the Bulldogs close but had no answer as Nye added his second of the game late, securing the 4-0 win and Adrian sweep. Noah Decottignies earned his third shutout in as many games this season, turning away 21 saves for the victory in goal. Alex Schaumburger, Hunter Allen, and Nathaniel Mott posted assists in the road triumph.

The 16-1-2 MD1 Bulldogs will have the weekend off as they prepare to host the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines next Thursday, December 12 at the Arrington Ice Arena for their last game of the Fall semester. Adrian previously defeated UM-Dearborn back on November 19, besting the Wolverines 8-0 on the road. Catch the Bulldogs in action one last time this semester next Thursday at 7:30 PM. Tickets to the game can be purchased on the Adrian College Athletics website.
