ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 2 hockey team split its CCWHA conference series with Central Michigan this weekend, winning 3-1 and losing 4-0.
The Bulldogs and Chippewas sit neck and neck in the CCWHA conference standings, so this weekend was crucial for both teams. The Chippewas also rank No. 2 in the ACHA WD2 Central Region national rankings, while the Bulldogs sit at No. 3, thus increasing the implications of this home and home dual.
Saturday night saw the Bulldogs travel to Mount Pleasant to open the series, where they eventually came away with an important win.
Bria Hirschman opened the scoring for Adrian, followed by
Claire Ames who tallied twice.
Ella Zebley and
Gabby Brumme both collected two assists in the winning effort. Goaltender
Emily Tracht was exceptional, earning the win in goal for the Bulldogs.
Adrian and Central Michigan met at the Arrington Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon to wrap up a series that could vastly impact the ACHA Rankings and CCWHA Conference standings with one week left in the regular season. Though, the Bulldogs would eventually fall to the Chippewas, 4-0 at home. Goaltender
Jennifer Grant made 16 saves for Adrian in the loss.
With the split, the Bulldogs and Chippewas currently sit tied for second place in the CCWHA conference standings, but its the Chippewas who hold the tie breaker thanks to producing more goals than the Bulldogs this weekend. Furthermore, the next ACHA WD2 Regional national rankings will release on the evening of Friday, February 16.
The WD2 Bulldogs will complete their regular season next weekend when they battle with Michigan State University, who holds the No. 6 spot in the Central Region, in another CCWHA conference series with massive playoff implications. The Bulldogs and Spartans will clash on Saturday, February 17 at 1:00 PM in East Lansing, and then at the Arrington Ice Arena at 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 18.
