ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team begins the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs this weekend at home as they host Lawrence University in the two-game Quarterfinals. The Bulldogs enter as the No. 1 seed for the playoffs after winning the regular season with a perfect 16-0-0 record. Lawrence enters as the No. 8 seed for the playoffs.
Adrian enters with an overall record of 23-2-0 on the season and currently sits on a 16-game winning streak. The Bulldogs rank No. 5 in the latest USCHO.com Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the Pairwise Rankings.
Adrian swept Lawrence at home in early January with wins of 5-0 and 6-0.
Aileena Dopheide led the team in the Friday night victory with a goal and a pair of assists while scoring two goals in Saturday's game.
Kaleigh Cadorette also scored a pair of goals for the Bulldogs on Saturday. In the two-game regular season series, Adrian outshot Lawrence 112-20.
Adrian is averaging 5.4 goals per game while allowing only 1.0 per game. Adrian has recorded nine shutouts on the season and have allowed more than one goal only four times. The Bulldogs are led by
Une Bjelland with 23 goals followed by 12 from
Jocelin Hudanish and ten from
Tia Lascelle. Bjelland also leads the team in assists with 27 while
Karmen Anderson and
Maya Roy each have 21. Adrian will look to either
Michaela O'Brien or
Annie Gilbert in goal this weekend. O'Brien was the NCHA Player of the Month for January and sits 11-2-0 on the season with four shutouts, a goals against average of 0.87, and a save percentage of 95.5%. Gilbert holds a 10-0-0 record on the year with five shutouts, a 1.04 goals against average, and a save percentage of 94.3%.
Lawrence enters the tournament with a 4-20-1 record on the season and finished 3-13-0 in NCHA play. The Viking average 1.2 goals per game while allowing 3.9 per game. The team's leading scorer is Lauren Askenazy who sits with six goals on the season followed by three different Vikings with five. Lawrence will look to either Sydney Seeley or Sarah Dobrzynski in goal. Seeley holds a 2-9-0 record with a 4.05 goals against average and a 90.3 save percentage. Dobrzynski is 2-11-1 on the season with a 3.62 goals against average and a 90.4 save percentage.
Adrian leads the all-time series over Lawrence 8-0 dating back to the first matchup in 2022. All eight wins for Adrian have been shutout victories, and six of the eight wins have been at the Arrington Ice Arena. This will be a Slaats Cup Quarterfinals rematch from last season where Adrian won 10-0 and 5-0.
Adrian will host the Slaats Cup Quarterfinals starting on Friday, February 16 at 7:00 PM followed by game two of the series on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
