Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Defeats the Scots When It Matters, 68-56

ALMA, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team traveled to the Scots of Alma College for an MIAA Quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs would lose the first two meetings in conference play. The No. 5 seed Adrian would beat the No. 4 Alma Scots when it matters, 68-56.

A combination of missed shots from the Bulldogs and the pace of play from the Scots gave Alma the edge to start the game. Alma would go on a 7-0 run before the first media timeout. A jumper by Nick Seifert settled Adrian in as they would go on an 18-2 run of their own. Adrian took an 18-9 lead with just about eight and a half minutes left in the first half from a three-point jumper from DJ Morrow. Adrian would control the rest of the half and keep the lead into halftime by a score of 31-27. Seifert would lead the Bulldogs with 14 points at the break as Adrian would shoot 41% from the floor.

Alma would come out in the second half ready to go as they would go on a 5-0 run in the first minute. A layup by Josh Jordan would end the run and Adrian would go back up one point. Adrian would go on another run in the game, this time it was an 11-1 run with just under twelve minutes to play.  A made three-point jumper from Darrius Welch would extend the Bulldogs lead to nine. With just under five minutes to go a lot of frustration started to come out from the Scots as they would partake in two technical fouls and two flagrant fouls down the stretch. The Bulldogs would struggle to capitalize on the Scots mistakes as Adrian would go 14-27 from the free throw line throughout the forty minutes. A pair of free throws in the last minute from Welch and four from Braylon Dickerson sealed the deal as Adrian would win the MIAA Quarterfinal game, 68-56.

A double-double from Seifert led the way for the Bulldogs as he totaled a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Welch would go 5-7 from the field to total 15 points and grab eight rebounds. Dickerson would go 8-10 from the free throw line and total 11 points of his own. Seifert would lead with four assists as Michael Rightnowar snagged three steals.

Adrian moves on and will take on to No. 1 Trine University in the MTI Center on Friday, February 23 at 7:30 PM for the MIAA Semi-final matchup!
