MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – The No. 3 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team bested No. 7 University of Michigan-Dearborn for the third time this season to advance to tomorrow's ACHA National semifinal round in St. Louis. The Bulldogs defeated the Wolverines, 8-1.
The Bulldogs came out hot in the first period, potting three straight goals to hold a three-goal lead at the first intermission.
Keira Eagleson opened the scoring before
Ashlynn Stitt followed it up. Defenseman,
Allison Shaw, would then add the third Adrian tally on a beautiful end-to-end solo effort on the power play.
Shaw would continue her offensive dominance in the second period, scoring the fourth and fifth Adrian goals to complete the natural hat-trick.
Kali Foerster would add another goal from the Adrian backend ahead of
Rhea Peterson and
Macy Piche (SHG) who both added tallies to make it 8-0 after two periods.
The Wolverines would open the scoring in the third period, breaking the goose egg held by Adrian netminder,
Chloe Burt. No further scoring took place in the final period as the Bulldogs secured the 8-1 win, out-shooting the Wolverines 54-25. Burt turned aside 22 shots in the win. Fellow Adrian goaltender,
Jordan Hunt, came on in relief to play the final minutes of regulation for the Bulldogs, stopping both shots she faced. Forwards
Tess McKerrow,
Sydney White, and
Makenzie Villiard each collected two helpers in the effort.
Adrian advances to the ACHA National semifinal round for the second straight season. Puck drop will take place at 4:00 PM CST on Saturday. No. 3 Adrian will take on No. 2 Midland University in the first semifinal game in the afternoon, while No. 1 Liberty and No. 4 Minot State face off in semifinal game number two on Saturday night at 7:00 PM CST.
