MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. -- The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 2 hockey team wrapped up competition at the ACHA National Championship Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday.
The Bulldogs entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Central Region. The Women's Division 2 portion of the tournament operated under a pool play format with 16 teams spread across four pools. Each team would play against the other three teams in their pool, with the top team in each pool moving on to the semifinal round.
Adrian opened its play with a contest against No. 2 seed in the West, Dakota College at Bottineau. The Lumberjacks would blank the Bulldogs, 4-0.
Game two of pool play saw the Bulldogs take on No. 1 seed in the Southeast, Villanova University. The Bulldogs would get their redemption, blanking the Wildcats 5-0. Freshman forward,
Natalie Tolton, recorded a hat-trick for Adrian in the win, while
Emily Tracht pitched the shutout in goal.
With the Bulldogs sitting at 1-1 after two games of pool play, their chances to advance were not the highest as Dakota College would go 3-0 to advance and eliminate the Bulldogs from contention. Adrian would finish pool play with a battle against No. 4 seed in the Northeast, Assumption University. The Greyhounds would best the Bulldogs by a 5-2 score, officially ending the Bulldogs season.
The Adrian College Women's Division 2 hockey team finishes the 2023-2024 season with a 16-8-0 record and a ton of success. The Bulldogs finished as runner-ups at the CCWHA Conference Playoff Tournament and secured a top-three seed in the National Central Region. Adrian received numerous individual awards within the CCWHA and a national All-American recognition as well. The Bulldogs will look to continue their success as they prepare for the 2024-2025 season.
