ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – The Adrian College softball team would play two games on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs would lose to Wartburg College, 2-6 and would beat Asbury University (Ky.) 10-9.
In game one Adrian would be held scoreless until the fourth inning. Wartburg would score three runs in the bottom of the second to go up, 3-0. Adrian would score one run in the top of the fourth inning as
Meghan Lupu would score the first run of the game for the Bulldogs. Wartburg would score three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring their lead to 6-1. Adrian would try and comeback in the top of the seventh inning, but would only score one run off of
Peyton Russell RBI as
Taylor Gerhardt would score. Adrian would lose 6-2 to Wartburg for their first game of the day.
Lupu would lead Adrian with two hits in the seven innings of action.
Karson Bagelmann and
Genna Marasco would both go 1-2 as Russell and
Flesia Borck would record the only RBIs of the game for the Bulldogs.
Abbi Patton would earn the loss for the Bulldogs as she recorded one strikeout and walked four.
In game two Adrian would score first in the bottom of the first inning off an error made by Asbury which led to Bagelmann scoring. A
Hailey DeChalk double would score
Maggie Leveille and
Alaina Craig for Adrian to go up 3-0 in the third inning. In the fourth inning Craig would hit a three-run bomb to center field to give Adrian a 6-0 lead. Gerhardt and Leveille would both score on a wild pitch as well in the inning to make the score, 8-0.
Ava Wolfe would hit a single to score DeChalk to give Adrian a 9-0 lead to end the fourth inning. In the fifth inning Asbury would explode for nine runs to tie the game back up at nine apiece. Gerhardt would hit a walk-off single up the middle to score Lupu as Adrian would defeat Asbury, 10-9.
Five Bulldogs would record two hits in the game as Craig would lead with three RBIs. Russell and Marasco would draw two walks each. Patton would earn the win for the Bulldogs, but
Macee Schang would lead Adrian with nine strikeouts and walk two batters. Patton would record two strikeouts in her two innings of work in the circle.
Adrian will play at home against Heidelberg University on Saturday, March 23 at 1 & 3 PM!
