ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team would host a doubleheader against the Spartans of Manchester University on Monday evening. The Bulldogs would sweep the Spartans, winning 9-0 in game one and winning 3-2 in game two.
In game one it would be a scoreless first inning for both teams. In the bottom of the second inning Adrian would score the first run of the game off an
Ava Wolfe RBI, scoring
Hailey DeChalk from third. Adrian would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. DeChalk and
Ava Ferrarelli would both get hits as the Bulldogs would hold a 3-0 lead. Adrian would explode for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as
Karson Bagelmann would single to center field,
Taylor Gerhardt would single to right field, DeChalk reaching on an error scoring two runs, and Wolfe would single as well to give Adrian a 9-0 lead. Adrian would keep the shutout in tack as the Bulldogs would win, 9-0.
Bagelmann, Gerhardt, DeChalk, and Ferrarelli would all go 2-3 in game one. Gerhardt would lead Adrian with one stolen base.
Macee Schang would earn the win for the Bulldogs as she struck out three batters while only walking one and allowing three total hits.
In game two Adrian and Manchester would hold each other scoreless until Manchester would score one run in the top of the fourth. The Spartans would keep the pressure on as they would score another run in the top of the fifth inning, making it 2-0. Adrian would get the bats going in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Maggie Leveille would single to right center field score Gerhardt and
Genna Marasco to tie the game at 2.
Makenzi Johnson would pinch run for Levielle and eventually score on a DeChalk single to left field to give Adrian the lead, 3-2. The Bulldogs would keep the Spartans scoreless the rest of the way and would go on to win game two, 3-2.
Gerhardt and Wolfe would lead the Bulldogs with two hits apiece as Leveille would total two RBI's. Gerhardt would record two stolen bases with Bagelmann to follow with one stolen base.
Abbi Patton would receive the win for Adrian. Patton would strike out two, walk one batter and only allow four hits.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 27 as they travel to Defiance College for doubleheader at 3:30 & 5:30 PM start times!
