Softball Takes Both Games at Defiance on Wednesday

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Adrian College softball team traveled to Defiance College for a doubleheader on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs swept the Yellow Jackets taking two wins on the night.
 
The Yellow Jackets struck first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run to take the first lead of the game. Adrian answered in the top of the third inning as Maggie Leveille singled up the middle scoring Taylor Gerhardt to tie the game up at 1. The Bulldogs would take control of the game in the top of the fourth with a single from Karson Bagelmann. Flesia Borck and Ava Wolfe both scored on the play as Adrian took a 3-1 lead. Adrian kept Defiance scoreless the rest of the way winning game one, 3-1.
 
Karson Bagelmann led the Bulldogs with two hits and two RBI's. Adrian recorded seven stolen bases in game one while drawing three walks. Macee Schang earned her fifth win of the season going the distance. Schang struck out 13 batters, giving up only three hats and one walk.
 
Game two started with two runs from the Bulldogs in the top of the first. Gerhardt scoring on a wild pitch and Meghan Lupu would draw a walk, earning an RBI and scoring Leveille from third base. Defiance would stay the course scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning. A three run second inning for Adrian started with a Leveille single to center scoring Borck, Bagelmann scoring on a wild pitch, and Ava Farrarelli doubling to right center scoring Leveille to go up, 5-2. A sacrifice fly from Gerhardt allowed Bagelmann to tag and score from third. Hailey DeChalk entered the batter's box and homered to left center to give Adrian a 7-2 lead over the Yellow Jackets. Defiance would make the ending interesting, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Adrian would hold off the Yellow Jackets, 7-6.
 
Bagelmann went a perfect 4-4 to lead the Bulldogs in game two. Five other Bulldogs recorded a hit as DeChalk and Genna Marasco both drew two walks. Patton would grab her eighth win of the season with seven strikeouts and only giving up three walks.
 
Adrian will play Anderson University (IN) on Monday, April 1 at 3:00 and 5:00 PM for their next doubleheader!
