ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College softball team hosted Calvin University for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon for their first two conference games. The Bulldogs beat the Knights in both games to start conference play, 2-0.
In game one the Knights struck first by scoring two runs in the top of the top of the third inning. Heading into the bottom of the third inning Calvin held a two-run advantage, but that did not last much longer. A single from
Taylor Gerhardt scored one to cut the lead to one run. A three-run bomb from
Maggie Leveille gave the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead after the first three innings. The Bulldogs held Calvin scoreless the rest of the game earning the victory, 4-2.
Karson Bagelmann led Adrian with two hits as Levielle totaled three RBIs. Bagelmann also recorded a stolen base.
Macee Schang earned the win in the circle today. Schang allowed four hits recording seven strikeouts in the seven innings.
In game two Adrian grabbed a hold of a three-run first inning.
Hailey DeChalk homered to left center to score all three first inning runs. The Knights answered in the bottom of the third inning scoring one run, making the score 3-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. DeChalk hit a double to center field scoring another run for Adrian. Calvin trying to keep pace with Adrian scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning. A double from Gerhardt and another double from DeChalk gave Adrian a 6-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Calvin would score one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Bulldogs recorded the final out, winning 6-3.
DeChalk went 3-4 with five RBIs to lead Adrian as Gerhardt recorded two hits and an RBI. Bagelmann, Gerhardt, and
Flesia Borck all grabbed a stolen base in game two.
Abbi Patton earned her ninth win of the season allowing six hits and striking out three.
